A new breed of comedian entered into the movies towards the late 1920's. Sound Comedians, with careers in vaudeville, burlesque and stage were put into two reelers and features with no looking back to silents.

The transition for several silent comedians was awkward. Several faltered, while other's like Laurel & Hardy thrived. W.C. Fields found his niche in the sound era and had his greatest success.
