I'll say a nice word or two about Danny -- he's one of the most talented, unique comic personalities of the sound era. I think he's absolutely wonderful in THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY and THE COURT JESTER, and THE INSPECTOR GENERAL is almost as good as those.Never knew him personally, but geez, there's gotta be SOMEONE who knew him that thought he was an all right guy...doesn't there?

Nope

My favorite Kaye story was when he was back in his home town to get the key to the city from the Mayor. After receiving it, up on stage, surrounded by dignitaries and in front of a large crowd of fans, Danny turned to his driver and said, "Let's get the f**k out of here."

Swell guy, eh?

Well, Kaye did a lot of work to bring awareness of UNICEF before a national audience. There was hardly a Kaye magazine article, newspaper story or television appearance where UNICEF wasn't mentioned. Whether his motive was altruistic or self-serving, it was a worthy mission.

When you hear the bad word about Danny Kaye, it just destroys the whole illusion, doesn't it?
It's like the magic between a comedy team.
I think it would devastate fans if someone came out and said "Laurel & Hardy hated each other, they did it just for the money".

Man, that would kill me.

As a fan I want to believe L&H, A&C, M&L loved each other and that was the real reason for the magic.
It doesn't take away the fact that to me, Danny was a great talent.
It's just kinda sad that a clown who makes people laugh had such a miserable side to him.
