Warner Home Video will have a life chat on Monday, May 23. So if you are wondering about the status of any classic comedies or other films under Warners ownership...
There's still a lot that isn't on dvd; Dead End Kids films, Jack Benny films, "Abbott and Costello Meet Captain Kidd", etc. Hopefully we'll also be able to find out what's going on with the Bowery Boys.

We should all log into the chat and ask for a Jerry Lewis double feature set of WHICH WAY TO THE FRONT (1970) and CRACKING UP (1983).

Terrific idea. It may have not even occurred to Warners to release it. The icing on the cake would be to have dvd commentary from Jerry for both films. Unfortunately, I won't be able to go onto the live discussion, as I'll be working, but perhaps somebody else here could mention it.

They've been promising the Bowery Boys series for a while now. Wish they would get to it.

I would also like to see No Time For Sergeants (1958) on DVD

They had another HTF chat about 5 years ago where they promised a huge amount of classic DVD releases. Everythinig from The Bowery Boys to the MGM silents like The Big Parade and The Crowd. Then the DVD market crashed, Netfilx and Blockbuster came along and people stopped buying. I do think many of the classic releases were somewhat underwritten by the millions of units sold on the blockbuster new titles. I think there are also different people running WHV now than before. I'm curious and hopeful to hear what they have to say, but I'm not holding my breath for all those previously announced releases. I think, sooner than we think, that the studios will go to a download system. You call up WHV's home page and download the film you want. It won't be as satisfying to us collectors, but there's no reason that every title they have a transfer of shouldn't be available.

Many of the questions posed here were asked in the chat:

Does Warner have any plans to follow Fox in preparing deluxe releases of silent and early talkies?

Warner: Indeed, The Big Parade, The Wind, The Crowd, etc. working with Kevin Brownlow to update some restorations on all those premeire silents. Also, 20 more silents will be release on-line besides the ones listed right now.

Will the rest of the Abbott/Costello (Captain Kidd, Beanstalk, Rio Rita) movies come out on dvd?

Warner: Yes, they will be coming out in the future, but dates are subject to change while your patience will be rewarded in time.

How about No Time for Sergeants?

Warner: We finally found the heirs of the author of the play and we're in discussions with them. It's looking optimistic right now.

Why the Bowery Boys taking so long?

Warner: We found the original negative of Mr. Hex and will hopefully have some of these ready in the not to distance future. We're putting a lot of effort into them and they will look great when released. Looks like 2010.

Of course, there were many more questions. This link has a transcript of the chat:
